I really get why this duology is so popular! I had a great time and even got a bit emotional at some moments. What pleasantly surprised me is how mature to me the way the backstories of the characters were handled felt in this one. The characters themselves also felt even more fleshed out in this second book, and I can convincingly say now that I am in love with all of them!
Thinking back about the Shadow and Bone trilogy, I find Leigh Bardugo's writing and character work definitely improved. I really enjoyed seeing my favorite character from that trilogy here.

That ending literally had me crying at 9:30 at night.

Why did Matthias have to die???? Inej finally seeing her parents again is what really broke me. And the fact that Wylan and Jesper can just have a calm life together, and Kaz is overcoming his trauma 😭😭 I CANT

Bardugo imma be needing the release date for that third book asap
