The first portion I found very interesting. Kates confusion, a sense of loss, and anxiety were really prevalent, I was absorbed. However, the story was moving very slowly as well, adding to the senselessness. But, the ending/ twist was pretty predictable which took away some of the enjoyment for me, I also felt it could have been done better? It felt very rushed at the end and cliche in its execution.

An enjoyable read - a little hard to start but once you’re twenty pages in - it’s got you! A little predictable towards the end but a good book nonetheless.

An amazing Victorian vibes read with an incredible plot. The twists and turn, the suspense and mistery... AMAZING! Underrated for sure. I really loved this book.

A book about forgetting and two lives intertwined—I liked the premise of this book and was quite drawn into it initially. But the story seemed to go on longer than was necessary and it felt quite predictable.

I didn’t hate this. The characters were well thought out and believable, and the setting was enchanting enough. The flipping between Tudor England and modern day felt pretty seamless.

However, the main problem with this book was that it all but spells out the ending in the first 150 pages, and then does nothing but steadily plod along towards the completely expected, well-anticipated finale- and then acts like you’re supposed to be surprised about it. It’s incredibly frustrating to sit in all that dramatic irony for 300 pages, just watching characters make mistake after mistake. It would have been different if the clues weren’t so obvious, but it was all very clearly laid out. I liked the ideas behind it, but the actual execution resulted in the book being a bit of a heady slog.

Also, the addition of a male love interest in the last third of the book seemed entirely superfluous. Can’t possibly have a story about a strong female lead with at least some hint that a man’s going to give her her happily ever after!
