Mindy McGinnis is officially one of my favorite authors after this, my fourth read from her. This story was like if Wild was young adult fiction with a character getting lost rather than planning a hike. We spend most of the novel alone with the protagonist as she tries to survive in the wilderness and processes some stuff that's gone on in her life. This was like a combination of elements from her three other works, as opiate use was described well again, intersectional feminism is at the forefront with great female relationships, and it's another survival story. I tried to give it only 4 stars, but by the end I was too in love with it.

This was DISGUSTING and DEVASTATING! It only makes sense it was all a mans fault. ⚔️ The writing was completely captivating. This would make a great movie.

Only Mindy McGinnis could make me give a survival in the woods story 5 stars.

Fine enough story with some parts that will stick with me, but I didn't care for the writing.

Definitely better than I was expecting. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about Ashley, as she is definitely brash and seemingly “cold” at the beginning. However she grew on me and by the end I loved her. This was also a surprisingly quick read. Very fast paced once she gets lost.
