All Different Now is a gorgeously illustrated book that takes a look at what the first Juneteenth might have been like. The text is straightforward and lovely, suitable for kids first learning about Juneteenth. The extra notes at the end will be helpful and interesting to all older readers and anyone reading this as part of a curriculum. Recommended!

My son had been asking to learn more about Juneteenth, so we read this one as a family. Loved—and learned so much from—the gorgeous illustrations, words, and the author’s and illustrator’s notes at the end.

I wish there was a bit more exposition to explain to young readers the gravity of this day in which a group of slaves in Texas finally hear the news that they are free. The tone felt a bit more somber that celebratory.

My students LOVED this #classroombookaday filled with hope. We wrapped up our Civil War unit with it.

I didn't know this was a children's picture book when I requested this from the library but I'm glad I got it and I'm excited to read it again if I have children (read it to them). Such an important subject and well presented for young toddlers

A beautiful book with beautiful artwork, but it's not stand alone. I explained slavery to my kids first and subsequently explained Juneteenth before reading this book. Without background information, young kids will find it difficult to understand the joy in the book. The book was a very valuable part of explaining Juneteenth though.
