This book makes no sense and is so good that I took my paperback in the shower with me. No comment

I'm very glad I held on through the first hundred pages or so. It started off really slow, but as act two started I was invested. At times I wasn't sure Muir's writing was my style and wished she would pick a tone and stick with it, but the characters kept me anchored. Sometimes things were a bit confusing to follow and I did have to refer to the house listing at the beginning to keep the characters all straight, but overall this book made me feel a lot of things.

This book left me so emotionally devastated I felt physically ill. I loved every second of it. At times I geniunely had no idea what was going on and the first third of the book was a bit slow but in my opinion the rest of the novel definitely earned the 5 stars.

This just isn't my favorite. The last 100 pages bumped it up to a 3 star. But really I just don't care for the world/magic system. I loved Harrow and liked Gideon a lot. Pam and Camillia were also strong secondary characters. But ultimately I just didn't care for the plot and found myself distracted and bored for at least half of it.

This starts as a Girls's Own Adventure then becomes, in part, a murder mystery -- sort of a necromantic And Then There Were None. Which can be particularly challenging to read in a speculative setting, because the natural rules of the world are being fed to the reader along with the mystery. The characters, particularly Gideon, carry the reader through to the back half of the book, when things really start kicking off. There is a pivot towards the end to set up the next book, which I found frustrating, but I'm pretty sure by the time [b:Harrow the Ninth|39325105|Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb, #2)|Tamsyn Muir|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1569871560l/39325105._SX50_.jpg|60943273] comes out I'll have forgiven the author for it.
