Reminded me a bit of Next Year in Havana, with the way the story is told/the granddaughter delving into the family secrets, but I thought this one was better written and more compelling.

Malgré un sujet très lourd (basé sur des faits réels), ce livre se révèle prenant. Je l'ai lu avec une boule au ventre, jusqu'à la conclusion !

I LOVE learning history through novels, and this is no exception. I would have given this 5 stars, but I really couldn’t connect with Avery. When I was going through her chapters, all I wanted was to get back to Rill and her siblings’ story. Regardless, this was still a very enjoyable novel.
