This had so much potential but somehow still falls short.

The setup is pretty weird. The world we know isn't the real human world, but a fake one created to funnel gamers into the real world, where humans fight both wars and for entertainment for an Empire they don't know or have heard of.

Our main character Dave/Zane is a trillionaire in the fake world, and an extremely capable engineer in the real world. With a little luck in finding a secret location just after starting, Dave gets the ball rolling in an intergalactic, several century old war. And being a world class engineer he uses its tinkering to reshape how magic works.

The love story is written like something a 15 year old would fin romantic or great.

There's a lot of tropes and they are unfortunately not that interesting done. The whole getting better at everything at once by being able to push one-self is annoying, and the smithing/magical circuitry slow the pacing down to a stop, and while all readers know this is how they will win, it's just not interesting.

Overall the story has some good ideas.

Somewhere between Loved It and Hated It.

The world is fantastic and I was so intrigued by it and wanted to read more. But the book felt really quite dull at times.
The pacing felt a bit off.

Earth is a simulation and Emerilia is the real world. For the people in the simulation they access Emerilia like a game.
The MC bleeds over from Earth to Emerilia and gets help from one of the creators that acts like a god on this world. The whole background somehow made no sense to me - but wasn't to lazy to really look into it.
The MC is of course OP as hell and of course one of the first that took NPCs seriously.
Overall the story was okay. the game system is not really useful - mostly ignored by the MC, the magic of the MC is so overpowered it is boring at times.

This is my first Chatfield novel. I'm leary of the LitRPG genre as the quality can vary so much. However, this one is a keeper.

Dave's unique power is more subtle and better integrated than in most hero fiction. It's by studying and hard work that he continues to discover new ways to do things. He doesn't just carry a bigger stick, he knows how to use the stick he has [wink].

It's also interesting to see Bob, (mentor/game-admin), and Dave balance each other. As Bob's powers are slowly eroded, Dave's abilities grow. Projecting those trends out far enough lead to some interesting possibilities.

I'm so excited to dive into Micheal Chatfield's catalog of work. There are eleven books in this series alone. That's enough to keep me occupied for a while.

This book has horrible grammar and an extremely amateur writing style. All the high ratings and crazy compliments are leaving me completely baffled.

I have read this series several times. Just really love it and this time doing the Audio version. Author does a great job of building a world I wish I lived in. Characters are easily likable and some great depth to the world, magic system and characters.

Awesome fun!

Very fun read! I would recommend to anyone looking for a good Litrpg. Even the obligatory training montage was enjoyable.
