As beautiful as it was sad. The mystery, a good addition to wrap everything together.

Couple of things that kept me from giving a strong 5 -

1) I feel Kya was over sexualized in a way not needed for the story, so much that I had notes that the writing geared towards the "male gaze", a thought confusing when I remembered it was written by a woman.

2) some moments that would have benefited from "show don't tell", mostly around Kya's development and relationships. I wish we had seen more of how her skills grew, and how complex her feelings and interactions are, considering her isolation. I saw the intent, but found it slightly lacking.

I really loved this book and I held out so long from reading it and I'm now regretting my life choices.

Well written book, heartbreaking at times, hopeful at times; the ending is an interesting choice, probably divisive. Kya is a beautiful and complex character and, maybe most importantly, one of the most resilient female characters I have ever encountered in writing.
