 This book is beautiful. As a girl from the south, I usually hate the way authors portray our accents and some of the cultural things we do that are handed down generationally from mountain life, poverty, etc. But this was like a breath of fresh air. 
An absolute love song to the outdoors that will have you itching to get outside. It is sad, and powerful, and dark at times, and absolutely beautiful. You will feel the loneliness, and touch the marshland, and smell the salt on the sea. A beautiful coming-of-age story with a touch of romance and a little murder mystery (although not the basis of the whole plot). It is not perfectly written, but the hype over this book holds true.

It's so fitting I finished this book on the beach. It really is a love letter to the southern marshes. It shows the melancholy of social isolation, self-survival, and learning to trust. It was comforting in the style and I felt at home within the first few chapters.

I don't blame her for it. He had it coming.
