I wanted more from this book sadly. Not enough time is spent soaking in the terror. Tell me more about Bible and Ranger. Show me more buses or holes. I had so many moments where I was starting to get scared, and ended up feeling like there was a missed chance everytime.
Another gripe was the writing style. While I enjoyed "what moves the dead", I found the writing in this to lean a little to close to Marvel and Disney in the relatable and snarky category. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being about to relate to a protagonist but the constant inner monolougue and song choice that pops up constantly started to irk me a bit. You don't have to quirky to be relateable.
This is all to say that there is a good book hiding in here, and not just the source material. Had the auhor gone more into the grossness, I think I would have liked it a lot more, but as it stands, this feels like "How to not die in an alternate world, hee hee".

I really enjoyed this, I wasn't sure at first but there are a lot of things that the book did that I enjoyed. This is a portal world horror with a fun friendship and interesting dynamics. I did guess somethings but regardless I enjoyed it.

God I hated this. It’s like if the Scary Movie franchise did a skit about Narnia. Based off the cover I expected to be very ominous with scary parts. There definitely are some creepy elements but there is so much comedy in this book it completely took away any scary element out of it. Not for me at all.

I was really surprised at how much I liked this book. There are some parts in the middle that kinda slow down the pacing, but a strong opening and closing act really bring it up for me. Give this one a go if you need some real-world fantasy with a bit of horror (but nothing truly scary).

This was a riveting story. I just couldn't put this book down. I also made the 'mistake' to read a huge part of this in the middle of the night surrounded by darkness and it was amazing! The story really got under my skin. ;)

it says it’s a horror but so far it hasn’t felt like it. i can see where the story was trying to be eery but it didn’t really work. also the humour was poor and boring, it really ruined the already meagre horror elements. the pace is a bit slow as well— 80 pages and no actually scary scenes? it’s disappointing.
