Jeff Zentner is a poet for the modern-age. Every one of his books walks into my life at the right time. I related to Cash in ways I had forgotten: the impostor syndrome, the worry of loss, and the guilt you feel as you move away from family. In the Wild Light is beautifully written.

Absolutely LOVED this book. Listened to it and I think it made it that much better! The characters were so well developed that I felt like I was celebrating when they had wins and was so sad when they had losses. This book doesn’t get enough celebration and is a must read!

I really like Zentner's style-- his rural, southern characters are beautifully described and the language throughout is lyrical. Papaw was elegant and raw and my favorite character. Even though I knew how this story would unfold and end, I was still captivated by the coming of age of Cash and Delaney and their prep school friends. Also, the celebration of the power of poetry was moving. I honestly don't know how many students would connect with this book, but many of my adult friends will love it.
