OK I’m gonna start this out with a warning to anyone reading this. This is going to be a long review and a little bit detailed. So if you don’t want to read a long review, this is not the review for you.

OK so to start out. I have read this book 3 times now. I read it twice for school and then I just read it for pleasure. This is definitely one of my favorite books. I would not recommend it to anyone who is not good at picking symbolism out of books because this book is full of symbolism.

This book is definitely set an earlier time than at the time I’m reading it which is 2023. I think this book is set in the early nineteen hundreds as there are references to the Great Depression.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a very detailed book. There’s a lot of references to black people and that’s the main theme. To put what I think this book is about is racism and the unfairness of the injustice system with black people vs white people.

The book starts pretty tame but in the last few chapters there is a court case which the main characters father, Atticus, defends. (He is a lawyer) This causes a lot of issues for Scout (the main character) and Jem (her brother). They get called “nigger-lovers” and at their age don’t understand it but are still offended.

(!WARNING! THIS HAS SLIGHTLY MATURE CONTENT - it talks about rape)

So the court case involves a young girl, her father, and a black man. (Surprise!
