Easy enough read. Some old fashioned passages but a lot of good characters

I enjoyed this book but felt like I was reading it for the second time because the BBC production I watched follows the book so closely.

There was something very icky about Ross having a romantic relationship with a literal 13 year old child. The only reason I started this book was because I loved the romance in the TV series (where Demelza is an adult) and thought it would be a nice read. Unfortunately I was only reading for the romance and once I found out in the book she is a kid, I put it down because there wasn't much else going on to keep my attention.

It's a fine story and all, but considering there are 12 books in the series, I'm content to let Masterpiece and Aidan Turner tell me the rest of it.

I enjoy the tv series quite a lot. But reading this post-viewing is somewhat disappointing - I was expecting more depth and breadth and instead discovered that at least in this first volume the tv series adapted nearly every incident and there isn't a lot more there. Also standing on its own without the promise of the rest of the saga, this book is SUPER light.

I started reading it because someone recommended watching the tv show. The show was slow and the book was worse. I only made it about 10 chapters before giving up.
