I was so excited to learn there was a new series coming about a familiar Kendra Elliot character, and the book certainly lived up to my expectations.  Lots of familiar characters, and of course some new ones with a new series.  A case from the past needs to be solved, and current crimes are quickly tied to it, making for an emotional and thrilling story.  Family drama, murder, explosions, and budding relationships are all on tap in this fantastic story.

I have been saving this ARC for a time when I didn't feel like reading and needed a boost.  And it did not disappoint.  I adored Kendra Elliot's Mercy Kilpatrick series, and I'm working my way through Columbia River, so when I saw that she was starting a new series, I was thrilled.

As in all Kendra Elliot books, the pacing is excellent, the characters are realistic (no mentally screaming at them to get some common sense), and the plot is expertly woven.  As with many mystery/suspense readers, we pay attention to every word and detail, trying to solve the mystery before the book does.  I get frustrated with books that introduce new characters and throw in unexpected plot twists at the last minute, making it impossible for the reader to solve the mystery on their own.  That was not the case here.  There were enough breadcrumbs that you started to wonder about character motivations and potential lies, giving you a few options of possible suspects.

A fantastic start to a new series, and I cannot wait to follow along the journey.

Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for a digital advanced reader copy.  All opinions are my own, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’m Sold

I was excited to start another series from Kendra Elliott. This first book was a great beginning. From the opening scene, I was completely sucked in. My brain was in overdrive trying to figure out who killed Derrick. I enjoyed getting the story through various timelines. It filled in so many gaps. I couldn’t decide if I trusted Noelle or not. Once new crimes started to pop up, I was really unsure of who could be the bad guy. The identity and motive surprised me. I wouldn’t have guessed that character. I loved the frenzied pace to capture him. It was so tense and dramatic. I was also happy to get a guest appearance from Mercy Kilpatrick. Noelle turned out to be very likable. I’m looking forward to reading more about her in future installments of this series.
