Okay, pause everythingโwho gave Nikki St. Crowe the right to completely wreck my life (again) with this glorious chaos of a book? I went in expecting some spicy fairytale shenanigans and came out emotionally mangled, sea-salted, and very much in love with a Crocodile. Yes. A Crocodile. Roc, you delicious, dangerous disaster of a monster, I am not okay.
This book is the second in the Devourer Series and it picks up right where The Never King left off, except now itโs Rocโs turn to shineโฆ and implode. The man (monster?) devoured a Myth Maker Witch, and letโs just sayโitโs not agreeing with his digestion. Heโs turning feral, his claws are out, and his moral compass? Spinning like a damn top.
But fear not! Captain Hook (aka: hot, brooding, and missing one hand but somehow gaining ALL the sass) and our girl Wendy โabsolutely done with everyoneโs nonsenseโ Darling are here to maybe save the dayโor at least try. The banter? On point. The spice? Level: the ship is rocking and itโs not because of waves. The emotional damage? Chefโs kiss.
AND THEN THEREโS VANE. Rocโs little brother, one of Panโs Lost Boys, who may or may not be the sarcastic bisexual gremlin of my dreams. He shows up like, โHi, you need help with your unhinged monster boy? Cool, letโs go to Darkland where the vibes are spooky, the secrets are plenty, and everyone has trauma!โ
What really makes this book sparkle like cursed pirate treasure is the vibe. Itโs romantasy meets emotional carnage with a generous sprinkle of what the actual hell is going on but I love it. I laughed, I screamed, I highlighted half the book because the one-liners are elite. Also, this trio? Hook, Wendy, and Roc? I want them to adopt me. Or kidnap me. I'm flexible.
๐๐ป ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป:
Was this book ridiculous? Yes.
Was it a little unhinged? Absolutely.
Did it consume my soul like Roc devoursโฆ everything? You bet.
Now excuse me while I reread it and wait impatiently for whatever fairytale Nikkiโs planning to ruin next. Long live the Devourer crew!

I like this world. It keeps getting more interesting. I hope there are more books.
