This book is part of my required reading for Literature for Children and Adolescents.
Everlost is a place where souls of children go when they die, they arrive with no idea where they are and in the clothes they died in (unfortunately for some). Luckily good girl Mary is just around the corner and all you have to do is make a wish into a well you can throw a coin in to be accepted into her little world of happiness.
Allie isn't an idiot, there's something wrong with a few things in Everlost and her determined and strong willed character seeks answers, even from the darkest of spirits.I had been wanting to read this book for quite some time so when i finally got it i was eager to start reading....then I fell out with reading every few days and a book that should have been devoured in days took....well more days.
Everlost was enjoyable, quite different in many ways and the characters are all strong and likeable, I found a lot of the ideas rather interesting in particularly objects and forests being held in Everlost due to their value to people in life.
Well worth reading but not sure if I would read second, however Unwind is appealing to me.

Slow to start but now that I have finished the trilogy I wanted to review here for perspective readers that it was awesome. I read all that's been published of Unwind and loved it incredibly so I was excited to read this. It isn't as amazing as the Unwind books but a really good read. I haven't cone across anything like this before amd that itself was refreshing. Enjoy!
While it was a great book, I wasn't intrigued enough to continue reading the series.

Not all those wandering are lost. Or Everlost.
Overall Thoughts
Full disclosure: if any of the books in this trilogy use the pun I just wrote above, I’ll riot. And by riot, I mean shake my head in utter disappointment.
That being said, this book was really interesting. Without ruining the plot, this story does a wonderful job of taking the concept of Limbo, and expanding upon what it would be like for children stuck in it.
There’s justification on why children are impacted more than adults, etc.
Overall, there was a really big Lord of the Flies meets The Frighteners vibe here. The plot isn’t overly complicated, and while you can tell it’s for kids (more so than The Arc of the Scythe), it’s not immature.
In fact, it’s almost TOO mature. I was really perturbed and distracted by the fact that a large chunk of this book takes place at the Twin Towers, which have been immortalized due to the tragedy of 9/11. It was tastefully done, but the whole act of doing it was rather tasteless IMO. Plus, it opens insane questions on other big “dead areas.”
Overall, I’m curious of the morality displayed near the end of the story, and am excited to see where it goes.
Pros
1) A wonderful new take on Limbo.
2) Allie is an awesome character
3) The whole idea of Skinjacking is horrifying!
4) The McGill is an awesome villain
Cons
1) The Twin Towers setting seems inappropriate
2) One side character in particular kind of fizzled out and it was frustrating
3) Almost TOO sanitized for a YA audience. It’s about death and limbo, please act it.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, this was a really cool read/listen. The next book is longer, and I’m hoping it adds complexity and maturity.
