The first half of the novel raved along and kept the reader engaged. The second half fell apart, and then just dribbled to a stop.
This isn't as tight a novel as his previous one, but thanks to the characters it remains a solid read.

We were introduced to Will Robie in the previous book. He is an assassin for the CIA with a strong set to morals. After his last mission he had been keeping away from the people he know and care to keep them safe. This time around the risk is high because his mission is to hunt down another assassin who is as good as him and unlike other missions this assassin knows about Robie and is prepared for him. On top of this, there are some strange things going on inside CIA because of which Robie can't even trust his employer.
For the first time Robie is actually considering a life outside work. We'll have to wait and see how that works out for him in the next book.
David Baldacci is of the author whose novel I can pick up without giving it a second thought. You'll be pulled into the story from the first page itself. definitely recommend.

A decent read. Lots of action and suspense. But, a bit tedious and drawn out. A bit anticlimactic of a finish. Not one of Baldacci's better books.

“The Hit” is the first Baldacci I’ve read and is the second book in the Will Robie series. Will Robie is a hitman for the US government, one of the best they have. He needs to eliminate the worst enemies of the state. In his newest assignment he needs to bring in Jessica Reel, a fellow assassin gone rogue.
The story comprises of short past paced chapters with loads of action; murder and assassinations, assaults, explosions, pursuits, mystery, conspiracies ... the story contains it all. The first action scene has just ended and the reader it already pulled along in another scene. I think it’s a writing style you need to appreciate and one I’m not too fond off. The action scenes are nicely described, but the story can certainly use some breaks and some changes in pace at moments. The story doesn’t really contain an ingenious, complicated plot (although it has a nice twist or two), and should be considered more as a straightforward thriller with the focus on one main plot. I feel that one secondary plot (or more) could certainly have added a lot too this book.
I also thought that the background of the characters isn’t all that great and could have been done better (reading the first book could possible make me reconsider this). Further we don’t really see a lot of character development, but this is also due to the overall concept of the book. The time frame of the story is probably too short to make much development possible. As this is the second book in the Will Robie series, and more are to follow, the character development should be more expected over the course of the whole series. As I haven’t read the first book I can’t really comment on this.
In the end I can say that “The Hit” was a decent read. I liked it enough for what it was: a fast paced thriller. I'm open to read more from Baldacci in the future but he certainly isn't a priority for me. I would most likely consider reading one of his books as a quick and easy read, after or during reading a larger and more complicated series. Rating: 5.4/10
