Let me tell you a few things about this book:
1. It is written in third person and although this isn’t an issue, personally it makes it hard for me to connect with the characters.
2. It is more of a mystery than romance or drama. Although I love romance, the mystery and the things we had to figure out kept me hooked.
3. The heroine is a little hard to relate with (or maybe not, if you like that sort of thing). She is good at what she does, she is beautiful and strong and *she knows it*. It was unrealistic to see a person go through so many hardships in her life and act as if dresses, dogs, boys and looking good was all that was important.
4. You get to see what every character is thinking at some point in the book (again not an issue if you like that sort of thing) but I like to keep a mystery whether the hero likes the heroin and how other characters feel about certain things.
5. Love triangles? Not for me. And both Dorian and Chaol were extremely boring to me. Neither showed backbone and
Supposedly the following books get better but boy was this a hard one. If I finished it it couldn’t be that bad but I had a REALLY hard time relating to Celaena and what drove some people to do certain things. Some things just didn’t make sense.
“Her chambers were silent and dark, and he cracked open her bedroom door to peer inside... He remained in the doorway, fearful that she’d wake up if he took another step. Some assassin. She hadn’t even bothered to stir.”
This happens all throughout the book. The world’s most famous assassin sleeps soundly as people come and go in her room. While people are being killed and she’s targeted, she sleeps like a baby. What? Some assassin indeed.

If you haven’t read [b:A Court of Thorns and Roses|16096824|A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)|Sarah J. Just because I know how good SJM’s writing gets I will read the second book in this series and hope it is far better than this one.
Final thoughts:
Will I read again? No.
Would recommend to a friend? No.
Wasted my time reading it? No.
Could the story develop into something better? Yes.
Boring? Not really.
Had to make myself finish it? Not really.

both stood and did nothing when this girl was being killed. And why? “because she would be disqualified if someone helped her” what the heck are you taking about? She’s dying!

Absolutely amazing.
Completely thrilling from beginning to end.
The banter with Dorian and celaena was great.
I love chaol.
Also nehemia?? stunning. Love her. She’s my new favourite.
All the new facts introduced about this world were amazing to read about, I loved the way the story flowed and the introduction of Elena and her *background* was really intriguing and I flew through this book so fast.

I had a lot of fun w this one! Not a huge fan of ACOTAR (to say the least; though I’ll be starting ACOMAF soon) so I was incredibly skeptical coming into this one. I most assuredly had my gripes: the writing style is not for me in the slightest. But the story is fun and compelling. Is it the best book ever written? No. Is the author a genius? No. Is this fun? Hell yeah :>
The slowest of slow burn books … and not in a good way
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while after reading ACOTAR and it was a little slower than those books but still a good starter for what I’m assuming is going to be a crazy series. The plot was super predictable and I honestly wanted more action from a book centered around an assassin but I’m sure it’s coming. I was invested slightly and I thought the character development was a good change but I have never been more against a relationship than I was with Dorian and Celaena … so boring for real. Barely know anything about Chaol but him and Celaena are endgame in my world. Looking forward to the next book in the series in hopes that it picks up and gets more interesting.
