It was a little slow getting started, but once I got about halfway through, things started picking up and I really enjoyed the rest of the book! There were some things that I feel like kind of got left on the back burner- I feel like the story as a whole was not as fleshed out as it could of been. The pacing was too slow in some parts and too fast in others. As other reviews have mentioned- there was a lot of whining from Celaena which seemed a little out of character for someone who spent a year in the mines and lived her life as an assassin (but also made her a bit more relatable at the same time, so tomato-tomato- we will see how her character evolves as the series goes on). But, in general, for the first book in a series, I can see alot of this books shortcomings as being just a setup for a bigger narrative set by the series as a whole. Going into the book I had already kind of expected this- some friends had already warned me so it wasn’t too shocking, and didn’t mess with my rating too much.
Anyway, I’m super excited to see what happens next in the series, I’m hoping that there’s growth in both the characters and the world building. I assume there will be, just from bits and pieces my friends have told me about. Now onto Crown of Midnight!

I’ve pushed off reading TOG for YEARS for being intimated by the size of the series and some of the books. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?! I really loved this book. I’ve decided to read TOG first in my journey through the series.
I love how Celaena Sardothien is portrayed. I am intrigued by the triangle that is kinda brewing with her Dorian and Chaol. I also love the girlhood of Celaena and Nehemia. This book felt like it was so easy to listen to and I am so excited to jump into the next book!
