This was pretty tense and certainly more of an enjoyable read than the first book.

This may have taken me a long time to read but I enjoyed it a lot.

This series so far has a great cast of characters and some truly tense moments. I'll be sure to read the third novel in the future.

Hunger was increasingly more intense with each chapter. With the Perdido beach crew safe for the moment from Caine, and Drake their attention is now focused on their never ending hunger. The food is running out, and no one thought in the beginning to freeze the meat, and items that would spoil. Albert insists that the only way to get everyone working is with some kind of reward system, but Sam is so naive he thinks people will work because they want to eat. The problem is, someone will feed them whether they work or not.. (Sound familiar?? lol)

The beginning of this novel made a huge impact in me. I didn’t expect it to start off that strong, but you know the FAYZ, anything can happen. I enjoyed this book so much, but the pacing for some reason felt slow to me. I couldn’t put down Gone (the first book in the series), but for Huger I felt more of an effort to keep reading. Nevertheless, the book is amazing. The plot and especially the final climax are so intense. Some times I forget that these are children we’re talking about.

As for characters, I love the development of the Coates freaks that live in Perdido Beach (Dekka, Brianna ‘The Breeze’, Computer Jack, and Taylor). I just feel like their loyalty and character defines so much of what will continue happening in the story, since they all got powers. Another character that surprised me was Zil, I hated him with my guts. Such a self-conscious character who rises to be a leader. That’s a recipe for disaster. And I can’t leave without praising Duck, we ADORE him.

Such a well thought out book, I’m loving this series. Would 100% recommend!
