This was cute. I think I thought I’d like it more though. The story was cute and I really liked the podcast aspect since I really enjoy podcasts and listen to several regularly. Unfortunately, I don’t think this will be a book that I reread. I’m glad I read it since it’s been on my TBR for awhile now but it wasn’t my favorite book of the year or anything.

This was very cute! Though I wouldn't rank it as one of my favorite romance novels, it was a good time.

I don't have much to say about it other than I think Shay's "friend" Ameena was terrible, and I'm pretty sure the author is a fan of Legally Blonde (of course, who isn't?) because of how one chapter ended: it pretty much directly quoted Professor Stromwell "then you're not the girl I thought you were." And also Kent had some major Professor Callahan vibes.

Honestly, Dominic wasn't my favorite love interest, and I wasn't a fan of the age gap, but he turned it around in the end. 3 stars.

Cute. Wish there was more radio. Really funky concept. Dominic wasn’t much of a standout male lead, personally. Um go Steve. Not Rogers

Oh and fuck you Kent.

“If this is the only way I can have him, then I have to be okay with it.”

Shay Goldstein really can’t stand Dominic Yun. He’s been a smart-ass since he started at the radio station. She can’t stand that he mentions his masters degree every second, and she can’t stand the way her boss, Kent, listens to him more than he listens to her when she’s been there for 10 years. To add to Shay’s stress, the station is struggling and may be shut down. So when Shay jokingly suggests a dating radio show hosted by exes, she’s shocked when Kent agrees. While it takes some convincing, she eventually gets Dominic to agree. And that’s when the trouble starts.

Shay doesn’t want to start liking Dominic, but she can’t help but start to fall for him. As their radio show gains more listeners, Shay and Dominic struggle with their lie. While they want to make their relationship real, they need to continue living the lie so their show will succeed. Can they even make a relationship work?

I fucking LOVED this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me squeal with joy, and it made me throw the book in frustration. Literally, the entirety of the emotions I can feel, it made me feel. I love that the romantic interest was a younger, Asian man. I also loved the family aspect of this novel. Honestly, The Ex Talk reminds me how amazing the Romance genre is. It covers familial relations, friendships, and (obviously) romance. I absolutely can’t wait to read more novels by [a:Rachel Lynn Solomon|15298200|Rachel Lynn Solomon|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1530989204p2/15298200.jpg]!

The Ex Talk is a cute, moderately steamy, mildly infuriating read about two beautiful people who are attracted to one but in denial falling into bed together with the setting of *rolls dice, picks paper out of a hat* a public radio station! Not exactly breaking new ground, but it gave me the baseline of what I needed from a romance, albeit with a particularly slow and unsatisfying conclusion (in my opinion). I loved Shay and felt neutral about Dominic, his stage fright and relationship with sex gave me the love interest archetype I need more of, but the last 4th kinda assassinated his character and I struggled to bounce back from that. I liked the concept an inclusion of podcast elements, which makes me wish I'd listened to the audiobook, and the way that misogyny in the workplace was incorporated in a way that felt true to life. There was plenty to love here, in short, but it didn't captivate me in the way I'd hoped.

3,5 stars.

This was a fun little romance. I really liked the concept of the “exes” being on public radio together and creating a show around dating.

It was too bad it was only told from her perspective though. I would’ve loved to hear his side as well.

I liked this book! The story was unique, and Rachel Lynn Solomon knows how to write a steamy scene! I didn’t like that Shay spent a lot of time talking about the age gap between her and Dominic- but other than that a very sweet romance and story!
