A return to the world of Edwardian queer magicians! This time on a ship, bound for England, where murder, mayhem and magic takes place. And not to forget a marvellous menagerie...

I absolutely adored the first book in this series and its two main characters Edwin and Robin. So I was a little disappointed to find that book 2 is about two different characters, albeit one introduced previously. I wasn't as invested in Maud and Violet as characters or in their relationship. Part of the problem perhaps being that the story is confined on the ship and takes place over only 3 days - although it feels a lot longer, particularly as the pace in the first half of the book was very slow. And the first book spent a lot of time describing the incredible magic system which didn't get built on significantly here.

But this book was much funnier than the first and certainly drove the series plot along, with more details about the Forsythia Club unveiled. I am definitely invested in reading the final book in the series.

I really liked this book. I was actually hoping for a story centered around Maud since she was one of my favorite side characters in the first book. I liked the development of Hawthrone
and the sunflower necklace was such a good addition to the story because of the way it reintroduces an important recently deceased character.
Its good tho and i like that there is still a since of mystery to the magic system.

I fell in love with Maud from the first book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading her character in this one, finding out more of her past, what makes her tick, her strengths, her weaknesses, her absolutely crazy adventures. This one made me laugh so many times. And where I once disliked Jack from the first book, I fell hard for him in this one too, as he begrudgingly became close to Maud. Cinnamon roll heart, that one, even if he tries to come off as aloof and uncaring.

The blurb wasn't kidding when this one said it was like Knives Out, and the twists are turns were an absolute delight along with Maud and Violet's antics on the ship. Highly recommend this one for those wanting to read more historical fiction sapphics!

Sensational book!!!! Literally un-put-downable!!! Magical lesbians solving a shipboard murder and conspiring with hilarious and engaging allies to protect an artifact from nefarious forces. Really well plotted twists and interwoven character motivations! Sparkling descriptions and hot sex! Can't wait to read the next book in the series!! I hate to be like "this isn't Just a romance" bc I hate to talk down on romance but it really is in a class of its own.

A romp! Loved the setting, absolutely caught up in the story. Spicier than I remembered book 1 being.
