I absolutely adored the first book in this series and its two main characters Edwin and Robin. So I was a little disappointed to find that book 2 is about two different characters, albeit one introduced previously. I wasn't as invested in Maud and Violet as characters or in their relationship. Part of the problem perhaps being that the story is confined on the ship and takes place over only 3 days - although it feels a lot longer, particularly as the pace in the first half of the book was very slow. And the first book spent a lot of time describing the incredible magic system which didn't get built on significantly here.
But this book was much funnier than the first and certainly drove the series plot along, with more details about the Forsythia Club unveiled. I am definitely invested in reading the final book in the series.

The blurb wasn't kidding when this one said it was like Knives Out, and the twists are turns were an absolute delight along with Maud and Violet's antics on the ship. Highly recommend this one for those wanting to read more historical fiction sapphics!
