tbh i actually haven`t read this, but i watched cari can read`s plot summary on youtube and i now consider this read because i have no shame

i will not rate the book tho, but the video was a 6/5 at least

Update 30.01.23:

still haven't read this, but this time I listened to an audio book on youtube (the reading hag returns) which was absolutely amazingly made (6/5 stars for sure) and definitely an experience to say the least.

however, if it wasn't for that, I'd probably have dnf'd this, because the beginning was just so slow and Feyre is kind of really annoying, naive and also a bit dumb tbh. The story overall was just mediocre I guess and so was the writing. I did cringe a few times as well and both Tamlin and whatever the bat boys name was made me uncomfortable more than once (why were there so many sexual assault scences? why was one of them supposed to be romantik?)

also I think if I were to hear the words "utterly", "lethal" or "(there was one more I can't think of right now)" ever again I will spontaneously combust

2/5 or 2.5/5 maybe???? (can't really decide right now)

For an avid reader, the tropes that seem evident in this first book do not continue throughout the series. This book gave me tons of Twilight vibes which made me very uncomfortable, but that dynamic changes as the series continues! Keep reading!!

I have never been more grateful for a book for the lone purpose of the protagonist being 19. She was realistic in how she viewed the world without being obnoxious or helpless to fate. I appreciate her for this.

<spoilers>I'd also like to say I'm proud of myself for figuring out the answer to the riddle quite quickly. It was easy because of the common themes in the book and how the Antagonist centered all of her actions around one thing. Riddles often have simple answers. The writing and foreshadowing in the first three quarters of the book really helped to make the answer obvious to the reader(in my opinion).<spoilers>

Feb 2022: 4.5⭐️
A great first book of this series setting up the characters and the realms.
The book is a little beauty and the beast, a little game of thrones, a little twilight and a little Harry Potter all rolled into one.
There were times when the story actually gave me goosebumps whilst reading it and I enjoyed the story arc.
Some really great character development, with a strong female MC and some strong male characters I’m looking forward to seeing more of, but there’s also some not so great character development (Tamlin).
I am excited to see how the series progresses in the next book.
Satisfactory ending? Yes.

Nov 2023 re-read: 4.5⭐️

using this as a semi comprehensive review of the first three books

Okay so full the series in full my rating is 38/100.

I KNOW ITS A LOW SCORE. However here is my reasoning:

Cons:
- all the books have conventionally bad writing in terms of pacing, plot points, and core writing itself to the point that it became very very distracting
- I think book one was just so so bad, and for me there was nothing redeeming about it. I read 400 pages and didn't really know anything about the characters, there wasn't really a plot, and what ever happened in the story was so so stupid
- a court of frost and starlight, simila critiques
- they really should've stopped at the end of book 3
- sex scenes, which granted are impossible to write well, were wattpad levels of bad
- Tamlin is a poorly written character with zero depth
- fuck both of her sisters, but especially Nesta. She deserved nothing and was horrible and her excessive power was awful
- the final plot points of the byraxis, weaver, bone carver, and amren were so stupid I couldn't bare it
- I hate Feyre so much she is so annoying
- sideways misogyny; ah yes she gets freedom of choice, independence, and power but because of Rhys and that's p much it
- SJM nearly beat me over the head with the "its your choice" shit
- the amount of times she wrote "I shot him a warning glance" (52 over the course of all 5 books)
- the last book was the worst end of story

Pros
- lowkey fun if you don't want to think especially in the parts that weren't too distracting
- cassian
- rhys but only in the scenes where he's teaching feyre to read
- the library for sad women with spooky monster
- cassian
- book 2 was actually easily the best book and if it was just that book I would give it like 62-68/100
- world building was actually ok though moderate
-cassian
