So, it took me ages to finish the book, because I was reading it along with the Last Podcast Deep Dives ladies. That kind of took me out of it at times, because I had to read in shorter increments and couldn't go at my own pace.
I did enjoy the book a lot! It isn't what I usually go for, but the podcast made me curious and I'm glad I checked it out! I will definitely be reading the next book!
Loved the hot and heavy stuff, but also really appreciate how it doesn't go with the stereotypes or puts a twist to them.
Maas also wasn't afraid to make things ugly for Feyre,
like having her be beaten up with bruteIforce. No magic, justIviolence.
I certainly didn't expect her to die!!! OR GET TURNED INTO A HIGH FAE! I mist admit that I enjoy the relationship between Rhys and Feyre... It feels sensual and forbidden, with him opening up to her. But they also seem like they could develop a deep friendship, especially during her weeks at the Night Court. Very interested in how the sequel will play out. Though I must admit that the whole getting her drunk and making a dance while she's blackout drunk is very questionable of him. On one hand, he did her a favour by making her forget  on the other it's still a cunt move.
Also interested in the whole geopolitical struggle between the King and the mortal realm. THAT FEYRE ISN'T A PART OF ANYMORE. I hope we get a view into how it feels to be a high fae now. I'd love to be shown the difference it makes and whether Feyre has magical powers now. If so, will they correspond with her personality? The spring court?a little bit of everything, because all the courts worked together to make her high fae?
Can't wait!
I also assume Nesta will play a bigger part. In general I'm curious to see how her family will respond to her being a faerie now.

Definitely a recommendation if you're into fairytale retellings, dirty action and a hint of lust.

Oh boy, so many things to say here. First of all, this was the first series in over 10 years that I DNF'd (never got past the first book). The writing is mediocre at best, the descriptions are trite and cliche, and it reads like fanfiction written by a middle-schooler. The main character, Feyre, is whiny, unlikable, and overall bland and annoying, she reads like a textbook self-insert mary sue who is the best at everything, except being girly because she's "not like other girls". The plot makes no real sense, and the story takes forever to move forward, usually with more focus on the smutty romance bits than the actual storyline. This story has just taken Katniss from the Hunger Games, poorly reskinned her, and dumped her in a wannabe dark and raunchy beauty and the beast ripoff. I could maybe see how it could be enjoyable for a horned up middle schooler/ early high schooler, but this book is not for anyone who wants actual substance to their stories.

Danger, romance, courage, and family. This fantasy makes you think of Beauty and the Beast and more.

I really enjoyed this book and am glad that it is a series. I never read fantasies that much but this book has made me want to dive into more fantasy series. There isn't much about this book that I didn't like, as the descriptions of characters, places, and feelings were so beautifully written you could see it all play out in your head as you read.

This was my first ever Fantasy romance book & now I'm obsessed with it. The plot is set in a world where humans & the faeries, who once enslaved them live separated by a wall built under a Treaty. One day when Feyre, a 19 y/o huntress, kills a faerie wolf, she is brought to the faerie lands and taken captor by a High Fae. Basically this book is a retelling of “Beauty and the beast”. Now, you might think that it would continue with a Disney tale, but no becomes so much more packed with adventure & life.

The first 4 chapters are slow paced just to set up the story but after that it gradually increases & after those first few chapters, I was fully enthralled. It piqued my curiosity & kept me wanting to know what happens next. The action- it's so stunning that I just couldn't get enough of the serotonin.🫠
Now the plot twists.. this book keeps you on your toes the entire time & then drops the bomb on you, in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE.

I'm in love with SJM's writing cuz the execution and imagery is just outstanding. She's truly an expert at creating such exceptional & contrasting characters & I love 'em. Speaking of love, I'd like to tell all my romance readers out there that: despite being a major fantasy series, it has the most beautiful romance, you'll ever read. MARK MY WORDS

<Spoilers>
<<<<<🔸I love Feyre. She's strong, loyal and also has her own personal issues mainly cuz of her typical fairytale family which is horrible. Her character development was really good.
🔸Tamlin's character is shy, sweet & strong. But compared to all the other characters in the book his felt a bit stiff.
🔸Rhysand- our anti-hero has played the bad-boy role so nicely. By the end of the book I knew that there's going to be a  love triangle in the upcoming books.👀 >>>>>

I'm writing this review after reading half of the entire series & that's cuz the ending of this book left me so excited & adrenalized that I just couldn't wait to read other books in the series.
Definitely going to read other books by SJM.🫶🏼

As a Black American, I don't reccomend this book to other Black people or other oppressed groups because there is so much talk about ~humans~ being dominated and being slaves while all the humans in the book are white. It's definitely one of those fantasy books that was and is still a reality for folks today. That being said I did find that once I started I did want to know what happened at the end

This was wattpad level trash and the sex scenes weren't even worth it. Also SJM ruined fae lore. Fae are supposed to be epic and whimsical, all she did was make them sus
