Maybe there aren't any such things as good friends or bad friends - maybe there are just friends, people who stand by you when you're hurt and who help you feel not so lonely. Maybe they're always worth being scared for, and hoping for, and living for. Maybe worth dying for too, if that's what has to be. No good friends. No bad friends. Only people you want, need to be with; people who build their houses in your heart.

I think this is the longest it's ever taken me to read a book. It certainly felt like it. The writing (as always) was stellar and the world-building was intricate and immersive. There were scenes that left me shaking my head in awe and amazement and there were ones that left me cringing with fear or embarrassment. This was very much a hit and miss - it had way too much detail in it, for starters. I understand that all the background stories were 'necessary' for the development of the story but boy were they boring. I was also disappointed with Tom's role in the latter half of the book - he did nothing. Literally. It was clever how he became a replacement for Henry, sure, but that was the extent of his role. Stan's death didn't really affect me too much when it happened, but I found myself feeling devastated as the story was revealed and I realised what he and the others had gone through. Don't even get me started on Eddie. The parallels with Georgie's death were too much. I may have cried. It was nice to see Ben and Bev get their happy ending though, and Bill and Audra had their own 'aww' moment towards the end on the back of Silver, so that was nice. Overall, not a read I regret but I'm not sure I could force myself to slug through it again if I needed too. There were way too many pages, considering what the story was actually about.

I listened to the 45 hours of this book on Audible. I was so impressed by how interested I was in each character's POV. Like Steven Spielberg movies though, the plot not related to the supernatural was more interesting than the supernatural. In my opinion, Henry was a a better villain than Pennywise.
