Okay, so it's cheesy, especially at the end. But it makes you feel fuzzy and warm inside, like any good Christmas story should. I loved the little town of Lost River, Alabama and all of the people who lived there.
This is essentially a Hallmark Christmas Special in book form. Very simple, very predictable. It's a sweet story with a happy ending.
It would be wonderful if there really was a place like Redbird, Alabama where an otherwise lost soul could find a home and enjoy the good things in life. Usually Christmas is not my favorite, but this book helped my attitude

This is December’s book club selection – a reread for me. I took this book to the hospital with me during Sam’s appendicitis scare. I loved it as much the second time around. It is a heart-warming story which takes place in Lost River, Alabama. The characters are real; I would love to sit down at the potluck with Frances, Mildred and the other “Polka Dots”, Roy, Claude,
This was one of those pick-me-up Christmas stories wherein every character is adorable and everything turns out just fine and dandy. So, why 2 stars? Well, I found the story lacked substance and everything fell into place so perfectly. It was predictable, almost to the point of insulting the reader. Perhaps I’m being too harsh, but I think I’d prefer this story when I’m living in a retirement community. I think A Geriatric Christmas is a more suitable title. Haha, j/k
