A heart-warming short read which reminds us that no matter how much we might think it’s too late to turn our lives around, or that happiness is not meant for us, happiness could be waiting for us around the bend, just not in the way we imagined it would come. I loved the small town feel and all of the lovable characters. The story was brief and full of love and hope without being over-the-top sappy. Recommended to those searching for a quick little read that will get them in the holiday spirit. Recipes for treats referred to in the story are also included.
What a sweet story! The narrator for Fannie Flag’s books brings them to life, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook.
“It seemed to Oswald that everyone else had come into this world with a set of instructions but him.”
A lovely Christmas novel by an author who has a knack for making you care about who is bringing what to the fictional potluck.

I read this book years ago and enjoyed it just as much the second time around. Fannie Flagg’s characters are so lovable and her stories feel like a warm hug!
Don't be like me.
When you're like me, you talk about books so much that people give you recommendations. You get such a huge backlist of recommendations that you find a reprieve in audiobooks--what better way to skip a long line of physical books lying around than to say, ah well, needed something else for my commute? Then you feel bad, because you're still not getting to peoples' recommendations. So you TELL them, "Hey, the best way to skip the line is to let me grab the audiobook instead of lending me yours!" Then you actually follow through, because guilt eats away at you if you don't.
That's how you end up reading a cotton-candy schmaltzy CHRISTMAS book in July.
A Redbird Christmas is cute. It has funny moments and fun dialogue. When I found out Fannie Flagg had written Fried Green Tomatoes I understood the perspective more, though I do wish I had read that one first, since I love the movie. Fried Green Tomatoes seems like it might skew darker than this book, which would probably be more enjoyable.
Still, it's cute fluff, and rather short. If you need a light, clean read with a happy ending this is the book for you.

I don’t know if this made sense, but this book made me feel like I was inside a Cracker Barrel and not in a good way.

Typical Fannie Flagg, with plenty of southern charm and humor.
