Dawn is well-developed and provides an interesting narrative perspective. But unlike Neal's other work, the stakes feel low, since there is no clear villain or conspiracy to threaten more than just Dawn.
Act 1, a beginning, with allusions to a (hopefully) compelling middle and end.

Great foundation introducing a complex lead character (Dawn/Aurora) and mixing in the science developments / entanglements as well as the history and politics. I’m looking forward to book two. Great new Neal Stephenson project (and great to catch his book release / book tour in Seattle for this).
