Great fun. Really getting into the Vorkosigan saga, they're a proper joy to read.

Not the most plausible, but then it's space opera. Miles kicks ass!

This is my favorite installment so far in the Vorkosigan saga. Miles is a thoroughly irresistible character. You just have to love a guy who is so often greeted by old acquaintances with, "YOU!!!"

Science fiction as a genre gets a great deal of criticism from me, and I think it must be one of the most difficult types of fiction to write. At times Bujold's universe fails to capture my interest, with its interplanetary military intrigues and space combat. In light of that, I was very pleasantly surprised by The Vor Game because it held my interest throughout the book. Often my primary interest in the series is the intensely lovable Miles Vorkosigan, but this one deserves four stars all on its own merit as well.

If you are already familiar with the novel, then you will find an enjoyable audiobook version. It is well read by a single reader, with good expression. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing my favorite passages, although at points I did wish for more differentiation between the characters. If you are unfamiliar with Bujold's work, the Vorkosigan series is a glorious space opera with great characterization and it is quite funny, poignant and very well written. This is the second Miles Vorkosigan novel so if you are new to the series you may want to pick up 'the Warrior's Apprentice' first, which details the earlier events.

3 stars --Loved it. Miles still doesnt interest me as much as his parents, but I do enjoy Gregor.

Updated review 2 years later: Still love it, increased to 4 stars. (Why did I only give it 3 before?) Gregor is great in this.

I really enjoyed this book. Miles here is less a victim of chance and seems to start coming into his own taking action for the benefit of his planet and others. The plot was exciting and unexpected and moved along quickly. I liked how the book started in one place and could have been great just staying there, but instead the plot moved in ways I couldn't have guessed to get Miles to different planets and space ships. The characters and dialogue hold up equally well, and I look forward to reading more about Miles and his adventures.
