Vasilisa has always known she protects the soul of a warrior. But us she ready to accept just what that means?
In Dark Whisper, the latest installment in Christine Feehan's Dark series, we find out. I loved meeting Vasilisa and Afanasiv. I loved that an ancient had somewhat of a smooth courtship but for the demons. In spite of the dangers, Afanasiv manages to calm the fears of his life mate. But getting her to trust may be the harder battle. I live seeing Afanasiv show Vasilisa that he respects her skills. I love seeing Vasilisa learn to trust in her bond. And when danger comes knocking I loved seeing friends and family stand tall.
This is a wonderful addition to this series and I can't wait to see where Ms. Feehan will take us next.

Is it me or in the audiobook can you hear the reader like swallowing or getting dry mouth or something. Like he needed more breaks to drink water or something. Or those parts were not edited out.

I'm honestly surprised that Feehan held herself back to a single sex scene. I hope this means she's read the feedback that fans are getting annoyed with the amount of sex she's been adding to the books (not to mention the really weird sex fetishes).

⭐⭐⭐/5

Overall impression: while I enjoyed the overarching story and blend of species in Dark Whisper, I didn't really connect with any of the characters or the romance portion of the book. It's a fairly long read (I listened to it on Scribd) and there were times when I had to go back and re-listen to it because I zoned out. In the end, it was fairly unforgettable and I probably wouldn't recommend this one if you're looking for a fantasy/paranormal romance novel.

The plot was multi-layered and interesting.
Dark Whisper was very plot-driven and focused on a few different events happening simultaneously.
SpoilerFamily and betrayal were central themes and drove the main conflict happening in the book.
My only complaint was that the fight scenes were way too long and numerous, making them kind of boring to listen to.

⚖️ The characters were hard to connect to.
I'm reading the first book in the Dark series at the moment ([b:Dark Prince|28866|Dark Prince (Dark, #1)|Christine Feehan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1405352801l/28866._SX50_.jpg|2609827]) and my biggest sticking point is that
Spoilerthe romance is very old-fashioned, with the male completely dominating the female's choices
. That wasn't present in this book, with Vasilisa having immense physical and mental strength. In saying that, I didn't feel much emotion towards any of the characters - so I wasn't as invested as I could have been, even though the plot was good.

I didn't really buy the romance.
The romance was definitely a weak point of the novel to me.
SpoilerVasilisa and Afanasiv accepted each other straight away telepathically for political reasons, rather than romantic ones. Them meeting face-to-face for the first time after this was also pretty uneventful. I didn't really feel a spark between the characters and there was only spice towards the end of the book (I didn't really care about their relationship at that point though).
The side characters took up a lot of page time, which made it even more difficult to appreciate any sort of romance.

Side note: I've nearly finished book one in the series but don't think I'll start any others anytime soon. They're okay if you're looking for something to fill your time with, but to me they're too long and not rewarding enough to read.

I love the series and I have been a fan since the first book came out!

I felt that this one was more paranormal/fantasy than paranormal romance. It did have the romantic element of fated mates but it was mostly battling evil forces. I didn't feel the "Lifemate" connection with Siv and Vasilisa like the other couples in the series, it felt more like coworkers who fight demons.

Its a decently written sorry but honestly it feels like she had lost the plot a little bit. I read each of the books but so much information was given in this book that was treated like old information that I actually thought I had missed a book. I hadn't.

There's just way too much going on and it feels like she jumped the shark.

I was worried that I wouldn't love this as much as the rest. I shouldn't have worried at all...

Maybe it's my fault cause I started this book thinking it could be read as a stand-alone; it couldn't.  Characters are forgettable- they have no "character",  a lot of info-dumps, I don't feel any genuine connections between the characters, lots of telling rather than showing. The only part I enjoy is the sex scenes. Overall, did not enjoy. But again, it could be my fault. so...
