it breaks my heart how unbearable a read this was for me, considering thaf TBDATE is one of my favourite books in the universe and i vastly enjoyed TFTDATE, but this just... wasn't it. i actively disliked all of it, ALL of it, and i only continued reading because i was interested to see if the background issues raised would get explained. turns out not really, because the book—700 pages of pure agony /neg—ends in a cliffhanger, and the only thing that gets hinted i'd predicted on page, like, 4. i cannot bear to think of reading another full book with these protagonists, as i genuinely despise both, but the thing is that i'm going to have to if i want to hopefully finally figure out this damn secret. i don't know. i am disappointed and i think maybe this could've been made bearable with A LOT of editing (which was barely done as it stands, i'm sure), but the version we got is a completely useless and senseless addition to two otherwise amazing books and i sincerely wish it had stayed in the drafts, at least long enough to be reworked from the ground up.

also that ending reveal was possibly the dumbest thing i have ever read, and i have read some dumb stuff in my lifetime. i realize one must suspend the disbelief, but this is wayyyy too much of a suspension i have been asked to exercise.

a mess. and again, i say this as a huge fan of the first two books. i think we should have stopped there :/

Book 1: amazing. Book 2: eh, like lukewarm tea. Book 3: fine, but I’m starting to feel like I’m stuck on an amusement park ride that won’t end.
It's like that TV show you keep watching even though it peaked already.
And now they tell me there’s a Book 4?? Send help. (But also yes, I’ll read it.)

very long but it’s all worth it. probably wouldn’t recommend for teens unlike the other books due to its mention of attempted suicide. did end on a cliffhanger and am so excited for the next book. recommend for those who want to read a more emotionally complex book which more serious topics. and those who don’t mind a long read.
