An easy and often funny read from Bradbury, he's such a fun and inventive read. This is his ode to noir and detective fiction in the realm of James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler, with a self-insert character that is totally Bradbury himself. Lots of fun, but felt it was a little too short. Luckily there are two other books in the series.

I just couldn't get into the story and characters, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't picture the setting as well as I wanted to.

A great mystery, with a truly sympathetic protagonist in his complete pitifulness. The characters are pretty complex. They stroll along the pages as if they are right there with you. Crumley of course is great, and the classic slightly insane detective and his bewildered sidekick manages to seem new. There is no author I've read as excellent in description as Ray Bradbury. His settings come to life. The plot twists and turns, drags you down and pushes you back up. Suspenseful and creepy, while also being entertaining and sad.
