tl;dr trauma and stress not only exacerbate everything, they can be traced as the root of chronic illness in some people and we must listen to our bodymind more attentively given the structural ways capitalism separates us from ourselves and each other. listened as an audiobook. 18 hours!!!

This book took me the best part of 6 months to read. I don't see that as a bad thing or a reflection of the book. There is a lot to unpack here. This is a book that calls for introspection and contemplation. An examination of what it means to be here, right now in this society we find ourselves in, what has shaped us and how this continues to play out as we age. The content is incredibly interesting, rich in research and beautifully written. I'm a big Gabor fan and find the discussion of trauma fascinating. It makes a lot of sense, yet we haven't quite connected the dots like he has.

heard about this author from the muna podcast when they were talking about his other book “when the body says no” … tbh i don’t remember why i started this one first lol

i really enjoyed this one though! he covers a lot of ground in this book, and it felt pretty succinct which is kinda funny considering it’s almost 500 pages, if you don’t count the acknowledgements, notes, and index at the end

it doesn’t get toooooooo in the weeds with science stuff either (thank god lol)

only took a weekend long power outage to get me to pick up a book for the first time in 2 months…

don’t remember the first half pretty much at all (because I read it two months ago) but the second half was good! that’s all you’re getting from me right now thanks for understanding xoxo
