It took a couple of months and a couple of library requests, but I finally finished!! And it ended so strong that I asked the stranger sitting next to me 'would you like to read a really great paragraph?'

This is a "big picture" book that's connected to everything, since it takes a look at our culture and how our priorities are VERY flawed.

Some of the concepts were familiar, but most were new to me and thought-inspiring.

This is more academic than what I ordinarily read, and I definitely spliced it with a few "fun" books (and admittedly skimmed the mushrooms/drug chapter), but it was worth the time. Now I just need Cliffs Notes so I can actually retain some of the insights and advice. :)

One main takeaway that I'll jot here is that being "authentic"/true to ourselves is essential to our health.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. Dr. Mate is so ahead of his time and I am so grateful for his work and sharing his knowledge. This took me a long time to get through. It’s heavy and dense but so so so so worth it. It is comprehensive and puts into words so many things I’ve felt but feels to chaotic and against the norm to get out right. He is able to express and explain with experience, research, and expertise. This book will be a frequent revisit from me and I will be recommended it to anyone who will listen.

Devoured it. Its not a "perfect" book, but its so jam packed with wisdom and learning points that it deserves 5 stars all the way. Mate is the man.

DID NOT FINISH

Was listening to to it as an audiobook and had to return the book to the library.

A must-read for people raised in a westernized world.
