Anne Rice is one of my all time favorite authors. I consider her to be the godmomther of paranormal writing. I have devoured her past paranormal books and waiting anxiously for her to get back into this gene. When I saw she had written a Werewolf book I was jumping with joy. It had been a long time since I had enjoyed her work. I've been reading urban fantasy novels with quick pacing and dramatic events almost constantly. I jumped into this novel expecting the Pow of the current writers in this gene. I was disappointed by the slow, melodic pace she had set. I wanted the rush. I kept reading and found myself falling into the story. I was hooked deeply, living it along with the characters. It read like non-fiction historical, so real. That is the genius that is Anne Rice, she makes you believe.

We follow a journalist Rueben as he interviews a young vivacious women about the estate she has decided to sell. They are attacked and he is bitten, causing changes. He is very introspective, noticing his body, his outlook and his abilities, all so different. He can feel evil, it calls to him, undeniable, he must answer. After there is a rush of immense joy that this conquering gives him. He can not shed innocent blood, it revolts him. This power to eradicate evil, is it from the gods ? His family and friends struggle with his changes, he must get tested, hospitalized. He can not be tested, something goes wrong with the samples.

I hate giving a 1 star, but this book promised so much - Anne Rice touching wereswolf stuff, yes please. *shakes head

Oh no, no no, I'm sorry but this did not gel for me at all. It was self aggrandising, indulgent, and though it's fiction and fantastical, seriously implausible...

Ive always like the writing style of Anne Rice. To me she set the standard on how vampires are and how they live. This book is the same for were-folk! Interesting biological premise.

Wish I could've given it 3.5 stars. I gave it the 4 because I really love Anne Rice, so I erred on the side of being nice, where if I didn't know the author I'd have given it 3 stars. I was a huge fan of the vampire books and saw some similarities between them and Wolf Gift. After completing the book I feel that it's setting us up for sequels, which is fine with me, it will be interesting to see where she goes with it. I think my favorite part was the final third where you learn more of the history of the Morphenkind, and enjoyed the formation of their community be the end of the book. I would definitely read a subsequent book just to learn more about whichever character she would choose to focus on. There was something much more sexy about the vampire books that isn't quiet duplicated with the Man Wolf, but it gets a little better with the introduction of Felix.

Anyway, really enjoyed reading the book, it could've been better, but I'm hoping what it lacked she'll make up for in a series.

I cannot wait for the sequel. I love that Anne Rice is back to writing suspenseful fantasy stories. This one drew me in from page 1 and now I cannot wait until the next in the series comes out!
