Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.

It was quite a good read, the fanfic aspect was hard to catch up on and in the end I did wish the Starfield was a real thing I would go and see now. As all the reruns of Cinderella there is a happy ending waiting for a reader. I did wish Catherine would have gotten a bit more punishment and not let off the hook too easily, but oh well. I enjoyed it, but I will not be reading the series.

Characters are adorable and the I really enjoyed the take on the 'Pumpkin' and 'fairy godmother'.

That was really cute! I was a bit annoyed by our min character at first, but Elle grew on me.

This was a good, quick and cute retelling of Cinderella. I liked the characters and the fandom aspect of the novel; how both main characters are geeks and fangirls/boys - this was relatable.

However, I have a bone to pick with [b:Geekerella|30724132|Geekerella|Ashley Poston|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1476734515s/30724132.jpg|50652411]: for a romancey book, I wasn't really feeling it. For the first half of the book I thought their correspondence was really cute and I was excited for their relationship to evolve. But it didn't. When they finally meet it's just a bit 'meh'. I didn't really see the 'falling-in-love' emotions from the characters, especially Elle, except from through the texts, which wouldn't be so bad except those are quite infrequent during the latter half. Also, the epilogue was a bit disappointing and the 'happily ever after' was just 'meh'.

SO fun! The perfect homage to fandom and what makes being a geek fun. Also felt a little like a love-letter to The Whole Fandom Surrounding the Star Trek Reboot, which of course I appreciated.

Poston did a lovely job playing within the confines of the Cinderella story while also modernizing it, making her characters 3D and vivid instead of 2D caricatures, and expanding the Fairy Godmother character into the very fun Sage. And the relationship growth we get between Ella and Darien is, of course, WAY BETTER than the .2 seconds of a relationship that happens in the Cinderella myth.

I guess the only reason this is 4 instead of 5 stars is that the queer reveal felt SO sudden? It's not that Poston didn't treat her queer characters with care; it's more that the queer reveal (between non-Ella and non-Darien characters) happened really quickly and *during* other exciting events that were moving the plot along. I would've liked just a liiiittle more buildup there. (And a slight expansion of the hint that Darien's co-star is maybe also a gay lady???) But really, if that's my only quibble with a book then it's solid to me. I know other authors who would've INCHED TOWARDS the queerness and then violently swerved away, so the inclusion -- and the fact that it felt natural and cute, not like some kind of punchline -- makes me happy.
