‘A woman with a little power was terrifying to some.’

After finally deciding to pick this up again in order to finish the rest of the series, I can honestly say I enjoyed this a lot more the second time round. While I still have some gripes about the world building (I distinctively remember having issues of not knowing like the period if it was like a urban fantasy or what, however I may have been overreacting a little in hindsight), I think by reading it in one go helped my reading of it flow better. Therefore, a much more positive experience. Am I obsessed with it like most people seem to be… No. BUT, I didn’t find all the characters insufferable this time, so thats a win, yes? And I’m definitely more intrigued about where the story will lead now.

Also this quote packs a punch-  ‘Young women died. Life resumed. Such was the way of the world, at least according to men.’

TWs: death of a family member, depictions of injury, depictions of corpses

I actually liked this book a lot better on reread than I did the first time around. There were lots of fun little Easter eggs and double meanings that you catch on the second read that elude you until you know the plot twist from the second book. Lots of little "if you know, you know" winks from the author. I just had a really fun time rereading it.

Kingdom of the Wicked felt to me like a great introduction to an intriguing world, and I am eager to pick up the next instalment to continue on the journey. I have many questions! Some of the scenes where the storyline takes a sharp turn felt rushed to me and could have been fleshed out more. That being said, I feel like I could make a great Italian sauce with the level of detail in the cooking musings of the FMC (not necessarily a bad thing except that I was hungry for a large portion of the book lol). Sidenote, go Nonna - who doesn't love a powerhouse matriarch :)

Not what I expected but ended up enjoying it more than I thought. An easy read but got me hooked pretty quickly. I’m kinda scared this is leading into a love triangle though…. But overall loving the series
