DID NOT FINISH: 47%

The author seemed to just want to have this book set in Britain and forced some colloquialisms in to try and do so, but for someone who actually lives in England it has the opposite effect.

So I do understand some words might be used in spoken language, for example the use of the word “brolly”, when written down it’s very uncommon to use abbreviations like that instead of umbrella and can be really disjointed.

Also, a phrase about halfway through the book of “us Brits love our dogs” or something along those lines - do we? I wasn’t aware we were known for that? Just something small that really hindered my immersion in the book and kicked me right out of it.

Also, the main character seemed to go backwards and forwards on whether or not Lucy and Elias had something going on. One second it was just speciesism, then the next there was a deeper meaning to his jabs, she could tell he was skirting, then it went backwards to just being rude again and there were just such long paragraphs going backwards and forwards on this, it got a little tiring in the end.

I don’t know what is up with these vampire novels that strip everything vampire-y out. It removes everything I find sexy about vampires. Also Pandora seems more like 23 than 124. Just waaaaaay too immature.

This was a cozy paranormal romance with a fake engagement between a human and a vampire who needs to marry to qualify for her inheritance. There is plenty of pining, dreaming, and family shenanigans. Some of it was a little over the top a’la Addams Family, and out of place, but I enjoyed the development and resolution. I foresee a second book coming with the werewolf friend, who was a funny supporting character here, and I would enjoy her book with already getting good banter.

A quick lighthearted read. The vampire family was the best part of the story. I feel like we learn nothing about the ml except that he loves books and is interested in vampires.
