3.5/5 - A solid conclusion to the first story. It could be a bit less angsty overall and I wish the ending were done slightly differently, but still a very enjoyable conclusion.

overall, I was lowkey enamored by this whole project. I was excellently charmed by the entire story arc, and after spending the better part of a year ruminating through this whole series, I really saw the superb value in its character-powered centricity. this volume was for the cheeseballs, absolutely, and between all the meta-narrations that Šejić employs, I saw the entire series rounded out to be something touchingly human and romantic - exactly what a comic centered on a queer BDSM relationship should be like! I genuinely do adore and appreciate how this series has made sexuality a primary topic of focus without being overtly pornographic, shallow, or exploitative. it normalized a sexual subculture by pivoting towards the actual people versus the act itself, which is essential on more levels than just fictional value. refreshing and real, it explores the vulnerability, anxiety, electricity, creativity, and thrill of forming life-changing friendships and relationships that challenge our identities and expand the ways in which we grow to accept and ultimately become our own selves.

Cute and deeply cerebral, “Sunstone Volume 5” picks up where the adventures of Lisa and Ally left off, seeing them begin to put the broken pieces of their relationship back together. But can they mend things appropriately enough, or will their reluctance — their unwillingness — to take the necessary steps lead to their own downfall?

Seriously, a superb conclusion to an unexpectedly beautiful story.

I still can't believe what a page turner this was. By no means is Sunstone perfect, the timeline of the story and relationship between Ally and Lisa seems off to me for starters, but Sejic is in complete command of this story and artwork in a way that never occurs in comics and graphic novels and that singular vision makes this stand out. What also stands out is the character development. Very, very little happens in Sunstone but as a reader I cared about Ally and Lisa as flawed, complete people and couldn't wait to see if things worked out for them.

Stars, I do like this series. Even if it's...uh...not something I can recommend to like anyone because they'll think I've lost my mind. Started for the art, stayed for the characters. Delightfully satisfying ending that made my heart go all mushy and joyful. Most of it I read on his DeviantArt, so having it all in one physical volume to read in one go is nice.

Ooooooh that was exactly the ending I didn’t know I needed. Excuse me while I mope for a few days because I don’t want it to be over!

Seriously, this whole story hit me right in the heart. It’s so beautiful, it’s so touching, it’s so real…I’m in awe at this storytelling. And the art. Oh gods. It’s so gorgeous!

I empathized a lot with Lisa in this one. I mean, I’m a writer, too! I like puzzles, too! And her realization that she comes to (but I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read yet), it’s poignant and I have definitely had one along the same lines in my own relationships!

I’m really sad to say good bye to these characters for now, but I hope to spend plenty more time with them in the spin-off stories!

The entirety of Sunstone gets 5 stars from me. Which is rare—normally there’s one part of a series that stands out above the rest. But every part of this is amazing, and integral, and gave me lots of feels.

This book closes out Lisa and Ally's story, and it does so with plenty of heart, drama, and passion. If you've read the previous volumes you know what to expect, and if anything this volume takes it to a new level. The writing is heartfelt and every page is a gorgeous work of art. I can't wait to see what Šejić does next!
