i get it but holy hell this one was a drag. It did succeed in making me thirsty as hell and i DID feel the suspense claustrophobia but it was otherwise not compelling at all?"Do you shovel to survive, or survive to shovel?" whatever man idgaf i did not wanna listen to this manchild bitch and moan about being stuck in a hole while terrorizing that poor woman the whole time. I did not meditate on the futility of life and the nature of freedom, just felt creeped out and agitated for 250 pages. maybe i just missed the point? I feel like i did not read the same novel as everyone else :(

Wow. Once picked up, impossible to put down. It haunted me. This book slides under your skin and makes you itch. A touchstone piece of literature on writing about the human psyche.

W ogóle się nie wciągnąłem w ten „duszny”, „klaustrofobiczny” klimat, bo ciągle rozpraszały mnie wszystkie dziwne dywagacje. Nie siadł mi też chaotyczny styl pisania autora - być może to kwestia przekładu. Liczne dychotomie - mężczyzna-kobieta, wydmy-woda, czarne wymioty na białym piasku (yin i yang?) - do niczego nie prowadzą. Szkoda, lubię takie zabiegi. Być może przeoczyłem coś wielkiego, ale raczej odpuszczę sobie jakieś dodatkowe lektury.
Zakończenie na plus. Troszeczkę przewidywalne, ale naprawdę dobra klamerka do początku.

Bra bok som man utan problem kan sätta sig och sträckläsa, för varje kapitel ökar spänningen och kunskapen om vad Mannen, han som förts ner till Kvinnan i sanden, tänker, känner och tror; sammantaget, en kul och inte alltför tung läsning om modernitetens förhållande till arbete och vardag. Kvinnan visar mycket, men säger desto mindre.
