A breathtaking, unflinching account of a grisly crime. Every bit deserving of its reputation as a masterpiece.

This book was really interesting. I love the way the book is presented as a novel, even though it is nonfiction. I am very interested in nonfiction novels. I think Capote did an excellent job with this one. His attention to detail was outstanding. I also liked the parts of the book that briefly talked about other violent criminals who were around during the time period of the Smith/Hickock trial.

Amazing true story about 2 men who murder a family in the midwest for no reason.

After finishing this book, I was absolutely baffled. Never before had an author captivated me so--with words that fell beautifully into place and stories that intermixed with one another to create a fascinating picture of crime in America. This book is great not just because of its extraordinary writing. It's the exploration of the psychologies of people most people would overlook (namely, killers) that affected me so deeply and made it so engrossing.
