Did not expect a fantasy story about a pirate crew in a unique setting to be quite so ponderous. It just dragged and even after the inevitable team up from the first half, the flimsiness of the second half of the book was even worse. Overall an ill-defined magic system, repetitive tropes and a Mary Sue lead protagonist drag this whole thing down.
