The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi swept me away with its delightful narration style. It's filled with charm and personality. Perfectly suited for the audiobook format that I enjoyed.

What stood out the most was the brilliant dialogue, which crackled with wit and humor. Amina's character development felt genuine and satisfying, and the comedic moments sprinkled throughout were perfect.

Plus, the world-building was immersive and well-crafted, transporting me effortlessly to the vibrant settings of Amina's adventures.

Overall, this book is a perfect blend of entertainment. I loved every moment of it.

3.5 stars rounded up. Really fun read. I get the criticisms about the second half of the book feeling completely different; the supernatural/fantasy elements don't really show themselves until the second half and the full extent f them aren't revealed right away either. I also agree that the writing does tend to feel more YA, but I think that's because the writing style and dialogue is very modern, and with the first-person narration it feels more like we are reading about a modern -day American than a centuries-past Indian pirate. But it's such a cool story that I didn't really care, and the second half of the book really flew by for me. Looking forward to future novels in this series.

Fun historical fantasy-adventure book with a carefully researched and crafted setting and characters. Setting of the Indian Ocean / Arabian Sea + cast of characters from the medieval Islamic world makes for a refreshing read compared to much of the rote European history-inspired fantasy out there.
