Ugh, Ireland - how I want to go see you.

When Irish Eyes Are Haunting was so good BUT so short. UGH, these novellas are going to kill me. Plus, anything with a banshee has me intrigued from the start. At first, I was hesitant to dive into this novella. Pretty sure I dove into another one for the Krewe series and I couldn't remember if I liked it or not. That being said, I still dove into it - because it was short af - but I also wanted to see if my opinion would change.

In the beginning, it was okay. Maybe it's because I was out running errands while listening but nothing was really grabbing my attention. Then, rather suddenly, I got hooked. No idea how to explain it but it was interesting enough that I wanted to see how it was going to end. Wouldn't necessarily call it a page turner since I was listening to it.. but it was good enough to get a review.

Overall, might dive into the Krewe series now.

This was a really good read. It takes place in Ireland around Castle Karney and the legend of the banshee. Someone is killing off members of the Karney family, and Devin and Rocky have to solve the mystery.

I've mentioned in other reviews that this author writes a fabulous paranormal mystery, and I think her books shine best when they already involve an established couple (that may be only the novellas) They don't have the forced and awkward romance angle to them that takes away a bit from my enjoyment of the novel.

This author is the queen of twists and turn and red herrings in the stories, so I often find myself surprised by who the baddie(s) is/are. Alas in this one I an excited to say I TOTALLY NAILED IT! I had this person pegged from the get go. Though there was a little added extra I didn't see coming, but GO ME!!

Great short story, I loved the mystery, and I need more! Loved seeing these two again!

When Irish Eyes are Haunting was both my first Krewe of Hunters novella and the first I've read of the 1001 Dark Nights series. It served as a nice introduction to both. If you've read the Krewe of Hunters books, you'll probably especially appreciate reading about Devin and Rocky's "working" honeymoon (in Ireland! Can't go wrong...well, maybe except for the murder and mayhem part of it) but if you're new to the series as I was, just enough is explained about the group and their mission along with Devin and Rocky's background to let you know what you need to without bogging the story down with exposition.

With its Irish (and St. Patrick's Day) setting, it's prefect for a quick March read. Throw in an ancestral castle (a castle!), a banshee or two, a smattering of supernatural abilities, and some mournful and prophetic wailing, and you've got a perfect story for a dark and stormy March night.

Everything was solved a bit too quickly, though--their reinforcements from the Krewe had barely stepped foot in Ireland and it was over! (More vacation time on the Emerald Isle, though--a plus. And that claw-footed tub...tempting!)

My interest has been piqued--I'll definitely be picking up more from both of these series.

Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
