As a trans man, this was a lovely short story. Already preordered the next book!

Unfortunately, I think this book suffers from its point of view. The story would have flowed much more smoothly if it were directly from Hal's perspective, rather than some omniscient storyteller. The POV felt juvenile and disjointed, where it could have instead felt more personal and intimate.
I am also not really a fan of insta-love, and the characters
got it on like day 1 or 2 of meeting.

Sweet little novella with transmasc representation and plenty of spice. I appreciated the MC’s reckoning with his dysphoria and how this part was handled so sweetly. It was a bit too fast paced for my liking, however. I wish the guard’s personality had been given a chance to develop before sprouting into existence as if compelled by magic, I felt like they didn’t have much of a presence on page. But they were living and sweet and a delight all around! Quick, fluffy, satisfying read.

Super cute m/m/m novella featuring a trans prince and his two hunky guards. Very sweet and steamy.

Prince Hal has just celebrated his 21st birthday and is lamenting the fact that he hasn’t ever dated or slept with anyone and he doesn’t even know how to meet anyone and truly know they are interested in him and not just being with a royal. He also worries they wouldn’t actually see him as a man. Luckily for Hal, tradition states that he travel with two guards to a nearby lake and slay a sea serpent his family has been prophesied to kill (if it appears, since it hasn't for the men who’ve gone before him), and his new guards are both fine specimens. Kaiser and Elmwood are just Hal’s type and he’s ready to finally get laid and maybe even fall in love.

Kaiser and Elmwood were both super sweet and caring toward Hal and always made sure he was comfort with what they were doing and not letting him push his body too far for his first time. They also accepted him as a man and assured him when he was feeling self conscious of his body. The sex scenes were steamy but still sweet, a really great balance.

My only complaint? That ending! Talk about a cliffhanger. Can’t wait for more about Hal and his two guards.
