I want to give this book a 2.75. I had a rough time with this book. There were a lot of GOOD parts in this book. However, stuff in between major plot points felt dragged out and, frankly, really boring . This book could have easily been closer to 300 pages rather than 500.

Look, there have been many times in my life where I’ve read a book with an inevitable plot twist or two. And majority of them, I’ve half figured out by the time they are revealed.

When I tell you I NEVER, EVER saw the plot twist coming of 1) Collith’s secret and 2) Laurie being actually awful. I’m sitting here in complete shock and disbelief. I’m so angry on behalf of Fortuna. This poor woman has sacrificed EVERYTHING, despite her fears that she is a monster, she’s probably one of my favourite literary characters ever now. That girl is fierce and all she wants to do is love and protect the people who deserve it. These fae males DO NOT deserve her. And I was the biggest Collith shipper ever.

I’m sure there will be a redemption arc for one or both of them. I sure hope so, so she can heal somewhat. But man, I never thought I’d say it but, I miss Oliver. At least he was bloody NICE.

Anyway, the fact this book has made me feel such strong emotions just means that it’s absolutely freaking amazing. It’s joined the ranks of absolute favourite book series of mine. It’s definitely going to become a regular reread. I’m obsessed. BEYOND OBSESSED.

2.5 stars rounded down.

This book was a nightmare — no pun intended — and has to be the most frustrating book I have read to date.

The miscommunication trope is overdone. On multiple occasions important conversations were unjustifiably avoided, ignored, or interruped. I can understand once, maybe twice, but 4+ instances is just obnoxious.

Fortuna is impulsive, hot-headed, and immature. Honestly, she is all over the place in a way I find annoying.
Her standards are so inconsistent that I felt like the author was just railroading everything to suit her whims.
Especially when it came to Collith and Loreli. Loreli is an ass constantly. He literally killed a human which is something Fortuna is VERY against (him creeping/bothering Fortuna does not justify murder), and he has literally forced himself onto her... yet she likes him. She kisses him and has other moments with him in front of Collith (in almost every instance she comments on how Collith sees them or can hear them). Not to mention everything in his past...

But when a prisoner who is Collith's ex tells Fortuna about Collith's abilities... she falls for the bait (while commenting that she is doing exactly what they want but just cannot help her self /eyeroll/). Without talking to Collith, without considering the multiple times he tried to start the conversation about it or the times she choose the interruption over that conversation, or that she never went back to let him tell her what it was he wanted to  her AND after he tried to explain — she writes her choice in stone. Throws away their future, their feelings, everything she put him through (92 years of being raped and tortured in hell) and everything she went through to getbhim back, she banishes him with a spell locking him out of THE HOUSE HE MADE FOR THEM.

I just have a hard time justifying her actions, her choices, and her logic. Getting 40 hours into a series just to be dealt with this sort of book is just upsetting.

I might consider picking up the next book after it releases and gets some reviews.
I might wait until it's completed.
I might not finish it at all.
