Plot was a little messy but overall this was a fun, couldn't-put-down read. I love Rogan and Nevada and I thought the slow burn was done well in terms of the buildup and tension. I liked the struggles Nevada had with giving into her feelings, protecting her heart, protecting her family and maintaining boundaries, though it was a bit annoying a couple times when her pride was the main issue. I loved seeing them partner and work together through the action scenes, especially when she could come in to compensate for Rogan's limits. I think the author tried a little too hard to make some of the secondary characters silly/quirky (especially the grandma, I think it made her personality inconsistent), but I liked most of them and how many were given a brief backstory. One thing the authors did really well was including diversity throughout the series, including characters of varied skin colors, ethnicities and romantic orientations.

am i a minority here bc theres so many five stars here so i think it really is just a me problem? i enjoyed the book, but it was excruciating to get through on the first half because it’s been a while since i read a book with really long chapters. the writing was easy to follow, i like our heroine and our hero, but they didn’t leave a lasting impression you get me?
but, i would still be interested in reading the next book bc it seems a lot of people really love this series so i’m guessing it’s gonna pick up soon.

Five stars FOR ME, I am not claiming this is great literature, okay? There's adventure and magic and fights and a mystery to solve and a hot bad boy who I PERSONALLY would not be attracted to, but I'm happy for the heroine. I love a propulsive plot, and this sure had that. I checked book 2 out of the library immediately after finishing this one.
