I enjoy this series greatly overall, though Dark Enquiry was my least favorite of the rest, and this is a fun little short story about Christmas with Julia's family. There's a hint of mystery, though this one is more about family.

Somewhat sappy and lacking a little in substance, but then most Christmas novellas are.

I liked it! This is actually my First Lady Julia Grey novel(la) but I am a big fan of Deanna Raybourn. Actually the best holiday-themed novella I’ve read this season, but probably not a good standalone book for someone not familiar with the themes in her historical mystery series!

"After a year of marriage - and numerous adventures - Lady Julia and Brisbane hope for a quiet, intimate Christmas together - until they find themselves at her father's ancestral estate, Bellmont Abbey, with her eccentric family and a menagerie of animals.

Nevertheless, Julia looks forward to a lively family gathering - but amongst the celebrations, a mystery stirs. There are missing jewels, new faces at the Abbey, and a prowling ghost that brings back unwelcome memories from a previous holiday - one that turned deadly. Is a new culprit recreating crimes of the past? And will Brisbane let Julia investigate?" (From Amazon)

Too quick to really enjoy.

This is fluff. Entertaining fluff, but fluff nonetheless.

Another Julia/Brisbane novella, this time set at Christmas time after the 5th book in the series, about a year and a half after their marriage. There's a couple of small mysteries - why is Julia's father, the Earl March, in such a pissy mood; what's the new maid from Aunt Hermia's refuge up to; where are the shiny rings and baubles disappearing to? And then there's some banter and some cozy time spent with the March family. A nice little story for fans of the series.

This was a cute little Christmas novella. Definitely less of a high-stakes mystery than Julia's other adventures, but it was a fun read and it's always nice when the whole March family is gathered together for a story!
