Be My Ghost is the first book in the new Haunted Haven Mystery series by author Carol J. Perry. I thought this was a good start to a new series. I liked the premise of the main character inheriting an inn that is home to a number of ghosts. Maureen Doherty has lost her job in Boston as a retail buyer when her employer closes. Just when she is trying to figure out what was next, Maureen gets notified that she inherited an Inn in Haven Florida. Maureen was a likable character and I enjoyed her journey. She is independent, focused and she has a wonderful dog Finn, who is a character in his own right. The secondary cast of characters is made up of a number of long-term residents, a few otherworldly residents, as well some of the citizens of Haven.

What surprised me was the mystery. I figured out the identity of the killer early on in the story. For me, I thought it was obvious in the way this particular character behaved. Although, I did enjoy it as Maureen and her employee Ted tried to figure out who was attempting to frame each of them for murder.

I enjoyed the first book enough to come back and see what the author has in store for book two.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Solid start to a new cozy mystery series. It was a bit formulaic, but that's to be expected for a cozy mystery. This series is set in a haunted inn, but I wouldn't say that it's a haunted cozy mystery because the one ghost we meet and the others we hear about are so lovely. Maybe it's a paranormal cozy mystery! Anyway, Maureen was just laid off when she gets a letter that she's inherited an inn in a small town in Florida. She packs up her clothes and her dog Finn and arrives in Haven. On her first night there, she finds a dead body of a ghosthunter in the rocking chair on the porch. The mystery of who committed the murder was obvious, but I didn't figure out the motive for it. The inn has their share of quirky residents, the town's people are characters, and Maureen has no idea why Penelope Gray left her the inn, and that's why the next book is on my TBR pile.
