Pretty fun! I will say, for a book so intent on calling out its own use of tropes, getting someone into a "catatonic confession" state should probably have been justified.

I enjoyed the author’s willingness to have fun with his writing in this, experimenting a little. Ernest would often break the fourth wall, hinting at something to come, not divulging too much in order to keep the reader wanting. The references too pages also added to that anticipation.

A million things happened in this, so if you love a good action pacted, fun (and funny) and innovative murder mystery, I suggest this one.

This was entertaining, and I made it ~70% in with like zero idea what I thought was going to happen in the end and I wasn't close to correct. I don't think I was a huge fan of the mystery in general-- it felt a bit too large and external to the family unit that it kind of felt random and out there. Not sure if I'll read the next one.

This book was actually just so much fun to read. I think Ernest is hilarious, and he makes a really clever narrator. The Cunningham family is a hot mess of characters that fill out the story; I kept oscillating between rooting for them and excitedly waiting for their potential deaths. The way this story is written reminds me of the Knives Out movies with a more comedic tone and that was all I could have asked for. It's also not very dark even though it's a murder mystery, which I liked. The plot twist wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped but it still shocked me because I absolutely didn't see it coming. I wish I could read it again for the first time, but a reread in the future will have to do.
